GET READY is still the best of the 3 albums new order did outside of the 80s-- it's actually very, very good all the way to the last song-- and the last song knocks my socks off with the lyrics "and if jesus comes to take yr hand/ i won't let go/ i won't let go"-- oh, gives me shivers; love it. i think REGRET might actually just be a pretty poor, or bad, album, though, unfortunately. the first 3 tracks are stellar, and then there's nothing really very good after that.

and i'm now very aware of why REGRET might be the weakest album in their discography, and that's because (out of a sense of bitterness, MAYBE, toward peter hook who left the band after TECHNIQUE but then returned in 1993 for REGRET) they didn't make his bass lines very prominent at all. and, if you listen to joy division and to early new order, you know you wouldn't think of either nearly the same if it wasn't for the prominence of the bass guitar. it's almost like the bass is the lead instrument, in a way. at least, amongst a lot of the sounds in any particular song, that bass is the most recognizable. THE CURE and DEPECHE MODE tried to replicate what joy division and then new order did with the bass, and, honestly, they did a pretty good job of it, too.

peter hook, apparently yr a huge prick, but god bless ya.

also, IN SESSIONS, is a terrific late release done in 2004 where new order actually does 2 joy division songs, changes up a few other older songs, and does some versions of their more recent songs. very, very good. --feels like its own album. it's out of print, so just download it.Logan Ryan Smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03267444929810505425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17823574.post-2130342502646153072008-08-10T11:17:00.000-07:002008-08-10T11:17:00.000-07:00wait, was that a sly way of implying i'm old?wait, was that a sly way of implying i'm old?Logan Ryan Smithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03267444929810505425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17823574.post-57714507451784316822008-08-10T10:47:00.000-07:002008-08-10T10:47:00.000-07:00"In general, it seems to me, that most people do t..."In general, it seems to me, that most people do their best work early on.
